Drum Canyon Road

I walked along Drum Canyon Road today. There was a big bike race going on, and although I took lots of pictures of them none of them came out very well. This will have to do.

Lava beds and Cinder cones

The lava beds had some really amazing plants growing on them - like this cactus. The hills in the distance are old cinder cones apparently. It was a brilliant place!

Yellow and Black

This lichen really stood out as I was walking on a lava bed in Mojave National Preserve. I also thought it made quite a nice abstract shape.

Death Valley flowers

I had great fun this weekend playing with my new macro lens in Death Valley and Mojave National Preserve. It seems as though the whole of the normally dry interior of California is covered in an unending carpet of wildflowers. It was pretty amazing to see.

I was confronted by an old man this afternoon, while out taking photos on Goleta Beach pier. I am not sure what he said to me but he feigned taking my picture with what looked like a TV remote control. Very puzzling behaviour.

A long walk today along the Little Pine Loop trail. There was a thick layer of cloud all day and only mist at the top. Still I did get a few nice shots.
